Some Seeds Are Still Bitter (2024)
Variable Dimensions (230cm height)
Soft sculpture of canvas, ink, mixed fabric, oil, acrylic and latex on sand
‘Some Seeds Are Still Bitter’ serves as a reminder of the self in times of loss and change, weaving together an island of anecdotes and memories and returning home to it. It is a hybridised palm tree whose trunk is formed of recycled batik, and whose leaves are block printed from ones existing in Kuala Lumpur and in London. Strings of seeping pearls, tangled beads and chains are curated from the community around her - Bob’s Bikes, Honey Gold Fabrics and Aunty Amy Woh’s off-cuts: the palm is grown from her immediate community.
